Let's get those tails wagging
Rise of the Staycation: Why Dog Friendly Holidays Are On The Up
Currently 50% of UK adults own a pet, and 26% own a dog (1). With an estimated pooch population of ruff-ly 9.9 million, it's no surprise that the trend of bringing your pet on holiday with you is on the rise.
Lovingly referred to as the Hound Pound, the money owners are choosing to spend on their beloved pups is on the rise, with more and more products and experiences available than ever before.
Despite many companies branching out to dog holidays in Europe, there is now a significant portion of pups choosing to pack their bags for somewhere closer to home. But why opt for the stay cation you may ask?
Firstly, just getting the legal documents and Pet Passport needed to take a dog overseas can be a challenge, and an expensive one at that. The average Pet Passport (with vaccinations and microchip included) can cost up to £112 (2), which is before you've even set off.
Then there is the potential stress an animal may experience in transit, making it not much of a holiday for them at all! Owners also have to consider the place they stay, making sure they are allowed to bring a pup with them, and also if there is a place for them to run around freely, safely contained so they don't get into trouble. So places that offer this and more are especially important.
And of course, the environmental impact of travelling further is now becoming a more prominent issue, so the choice to go on a staycation and save yourself the hassle starts to become a lot more tempting.
