Lake District Estates
Sustainability
Lake District Foundation
The Lake District Foundation (LDF) has been working for over 23 years to raise funds from visitors and the tourism industry. The LDF helps deliver sustainable tourism programmes and promote sustainable practices throughout Cumbria and beyond. Lake District Estates support the charity through visitor donation schemes for local projects such as the Ullswater Way, Love your Lakes and red squirrel conservation.
Sustainable best practices
The UK Government is committed to achieving net zero by 2050. At Lake District Estates, we are aware of the challenges facing us and sustainability is at the top of our agenda. We are acting to positively impact the environment in which we operate and have set out a carbon net zero pathway to achieve this by 2037. We measure our annual scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions across all of the businesses and have set aside a budget to help us achieve net zero by making small and big changes to our operations.
Green energy
We have adopted green energy tariffs throughout our businesses. We are aiming to drive down our emissions within our organisation and our supply chain as much as possible and offset any residual usage with technology or by investing in third-party initiatives such as Carbon Footprint.
Award-winning best practices
Our caravan parks and attractions are committed to best practices and hold various environmental accreditations, including the Gold David Bellamy Conservation Awards and Visit England Gold Green Tourism Awards. These awards form an annual audit to check and improve environmental best practices, helping to protect the destination for future generations to enjoy.
Countryside Code
We understand the importance of looking after the environment we call home, and the new Countryside Code is a fantastic way of quickly summarising the things that you should make sure to do next time you visit. You can view the full code here.
